The Summer Coral Gables Restaurants Started Inheriting Each Other's Addresses

Walk Miracle Mile, Alhambra Circle, and Le Jeune Road this summer and you will notice something the food press has covered piece by piece but not connected. The Gables' 2026 opening slate is not a wave of new construction. It is a game of musical chairs, where the operators shuffling in and out of long-held addresses tell you more about the neighborhood's commercial floor than any raw opening count would.

Three of the summer's most-anticipated debuts are moving into spaces the previous tenant only just vacated. One is a two-decade institution reopening two blocks from where it closed. Read together, they say something specific about what it takes to hold a storefront in this city right now.

The Vialetto Chain Reaction

The clearest example is a single address at 4019 S. Le Jeune Road. For 26 years it was Caffe Vialetto, an Italian fine-dining room where Coral Gables regulars, in the words of Miami New Times, closed deals and marked anniversaries. It shuttered on August 17, 2025. Butcher-restaurant The Wagyu Bar, owned by Meat N' Bone and originally established in 2021 on Coral Way, took over the space and, as of April 23, 2026, is open there daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Chopa, who owned Caffe Vialetto for those 26 years, is not gone. He is reopening as Casa Vialetto at 267 Alhambra Circle in late May 2026, roughly a mile from his old room, this time solo after his former partner retired. The new space is smaller by design, around 45 to 50 seats, keeping the fine-dining format with a full bar and the seafood-and-risotto identity long-time customers know.

So one address became two restaurants, and the neighborhood lost zero operators. If you ate at Vialetto for a decade, the summer 2026 version of your Friday reservation now involves choosing between the chef who cooked for you and the concept that took his lease. The Buccan Corner at 100 Miracle Mile

The other headline arrival is the Palm Beach group Ember Hospitality's three-restaurant landing at 100 Miracle Mile. Chef Clay Conley, a seven-time James Beard nominee whose Miami résumé traces back to Azul at Mandarin Oriental, has been trying to open in the Gables for over a decade. A 2014 deal fell through. This one didn't.

The trio opened in staggered order:

• Buccan Sandwich Shop at 100 Miracle Mile, opened Saturday, May 9
• Buccan, the flagship with the open kitchen and wood-burning oven, opened Friday, May 22
• Imoto, the sushi-and-wood-fired counter with its own entrance on Galiano Street, opened Monday, June 8

Two useful details for a resident planning around this. First, Conley told the local press he is expanding the drink program in Coral Gables because, in his read, Palm Beach is not into cocktail culture the way Miami is. The Gables Buccan is meant to be a slightly different beast than the Palm Beach original, not a copy. Second, the sandwich shop is the walk-in play — no reservation, gourmet counter, and yes, the beef carpaccio baguette that used to require a drive north is now on Miracle Mile.

Zuccaly and the Palermo Avenue Bet

The Gables' first Italian food hall opens this summer at 111 Palermo Avenue, Suite 112, inside Plaza Coral Gables. Zuccaly is the casual sibling of Zucca, the Alcazar Avenue Italian room that Da Silva Hospitality opened in 2017 and that landed on Miami New Times' Top 100 and Top 15 Italian lists this year.

The concept spans 8,000 square feet and six stations, including:

A "LaBiga" counter turning out Roman-style pizza al taglio using biga pre-fermentation, a Pasta and Risotto station making lasagna and cannelloni fresh daily, and a Grilling Steaks and Fish station firing meats and seafood over charcoal and live wood.

Corporate chef Manuel Garcia, who has run Zucca since 2017 and previously cooked at the Michelin-starred L'Espérance and La Côte Saint-Jacques in France as well as Casa Tua on Miami Beach, is overseeing the kitchen. Erasmo da Silva has positioned Zuccaly as the more casual side of the group, aimed at guests who want the same kitchen without the white-tablecloth setting.

For residents this is the useful piece: Zuccaly is a walk-in food hall from a fine-dining operator, which is a format the Gables has not really had. The pattern here echoes the bigger openings. Casa MX did not build; it converted a former residence. Aromas del Perú did not launch; it moved. Alto Tostado slid into a Mile storefront the way most Mile tenants do, by taking a lease the previous coffee operator gave up. Storefronts turn over. Operators recycle.

The Weekend Program Behind the Restaurants

Giralda Plaza's canopy. A handwoven canopy of color is installed as an open-air public art piece over Giralda Plaza through July 31, 2026. It reads best at dusk when the pedestrian promenade fills in for dinner traffic at Aromas del Perú, Skinny Louie, and the older Giralda tenants.

World Cup viewings. With FIFA World Cup 2026 landing in Miami, two neighborhood-scale watch parties are running. Sushi Maki Coral Gables is showing every match through July 19, and Hotel Colonnade Coral Gables is hosting international screenings across its Lobby Bar and Game Room on select dates through July 3.

Coral Gables Art Cinema. Now in its 12th year as the region's nonprofit independent, foreign, and classic film house on Aragon Avenue. Summer programming is the counter-weight to the outdoor heat, and the theater's schedule is a better weekend-night bet than most residents actually use it for.

Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre and the Lowe Art Museum round out the standing cultural roster if you have out-of-town family in for a weekend and do not want to default to the beach.

What the Musical Chairs Actually Signal

Here is the piece worth holding onto. Miracle Mile, Alhambra, Palermo, and Le Jeune are not seeing new supply this year. They are seeing new tenants in old rooms. That is the mark of a commercial district where storefronts are scarce enough that a chef like Conley waits twelve years for the right corner, and where a 26-year Italian veteran opens a smaller room a mile down the road rather than leave the neighborhood entirely.
